What is The Assistant Psychologist Application Workbook?

Built across five structured modules, The Assistant Psychologist Application Workbook guides you through every stage of the application process: helping you understand where your profile stands, what roles are the right fit, and how to present yourself clearly and confidently at every step.

The workbook is designed to take you through one application from start to finish. You choose a real role you want to apply for, and work through each module with that role in mind, building a master CV and supporting statement as you go, all the way through to interview preparation. Doing this properly for one role creates a foundation you'll reuse for every application after it.

Inside the Workbook

  • Module 01

    Before writing a single word of your application, this module helps you take stock of where you actually stand. You'll work through a structured self-audit covering the typical AP competency areas — rating your confidence honestly, identifying your strongest evidence, and spotting the gaps worth addressing.

  • Module 02

    CV prep – no more staring at a blank document. You'll pull apart the job description, build a bank of strong achievement statements you can draw on for every application, and leave with a CV that actually reflects what you can do.

  • Module 03

    The Supporting Statement: the part most people find hardest. This module walks you through the whole thing, i.e., mapping your experience to the person spec, structuring your statement section by section with word counts and example starters, and sense-checking it against a 12-point checklist before you submit. You also get access to my own successful NHS AP supporting statement!

  • Module 04

    So you get shortlisted for an interview — now what? This module helps you research the service properly, learn which answer framework to use for which question, develop a strong reflective example, and practice with over 16 real AP panel questions before the day.

  • Module 05

    One application down, more to come! This module helps you figure out what worked, make a realistic plan for what's next, and set yourself up to reuse everything you've built so future applications take a fraction of the time.

A note from me

I spent a long time building this because I wanted it to be the resource I wish I'd had when I was going through this process myself. Every module and worksheet has been thought through carefully, drawing on my own experience of receiving 3 AP offers, and what I know from working with AP applicants directly: where people get stuck, what panels are actually looking for, and what separates the applications that get shortlisted from the ones that don't.

At £37, I've kept the price deliberately accessible. I know what it's like to be at this stage of your career. You want to invest in yourself, but you're not in a position to spend hundreds on coaching. This workbook gives you the structure, frameworks, and practical guidance that would normally take hours of 1:1 support to piece together, in a format you can work through at your own pace.   • Yes — the workbook is delivered as a Notion template, so you'll need a free Notion account to use it. Notion is free to sign up for and the free plan is more than enough. If you've never used Notion before, it's straightforward to get started; the workbook is designed to be self-contained and you won't need any prior experience with the platform.

  • Yes. The self-audit module at the start is specifically designed to help you understand where you stand right now — including whether there are gaps worth addressing before you start applying. The workbook meets you where you are, whether you're applying for your first AP role or your fifth.

  • Absolutely and it's designed for exactly that. Module 05 includes a dedicated tailoring guide that walks you through what to update for each new role and what can stay the same, so subsequent applications take a fraction of the time.

  • The workbook is primarily written with NHS AP roles in mind, but the frameworks, CV guidance, and supporting statement structure are transferable to third sector, research, and private sector AP-style roles. The person spec mapping tool works with any job description.

  • Working through all five modules from scratch typically takes a few hours in total, but the workbook isn't designed to be completed in one sitting. Most people work through one module at a time as their application develops, and return to sections as needed.
